Olimpic Sports


Badminton is a sport played with a ball, called “shuttlecock” or “birdie”.
It can be played by two players one each other (singles), or by four players two vs. two (doubles). The players of a team must hit the birdie with a special badminton racquet (which is lighter than others) and pass it to the other part of the court, which is separated by a net. The person or team that fails the pass looses the point. Each game is played to 21 points. A match is the best of three games.

The contestants of Spain in badminton are two: Pablo Abián playing for male category, and Joana Martinez playing for female category. 


Handball is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outfield players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball to throw it into the goal of the other team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team with the most goals scored wins.The field is like this:

The Spanish handball teamhas won the world handball championship once (in 2005), in the Olimpic Games they've got bronze medal three times (1996, 2000 and 2008)and in the european handball championship they've got silver medal three times (1996, 1998 and 2006). They have also cualified for London's 2012 Olimpic Games and they are going to do it very well.


Waterpolo is a team sport that is performance in the pool. It's really similar to handball and in this sport the players have to pass the ball and try to throw it into the net from the rivals. The team that gets more scores wins.

Trampolin is a sport created in 1936 by the american George Nissen. This sport consist of jump off a trampolin at 1 or 3 meters over the water, where the athlete will have to fall stylishly pirouetting and impact to water. After, some juries choose your mark.

The spanish representatives are Javier Illana in men´s team, Leyre Eizaguirre, Jennifer Benitez and Claudia Prat in the women´s team


Triathlon came up as a bet between athletes to see which of them was the best one: a swimmer, a biker or a runner. Some people say it was originally created in France, where they called it Les Trois Sports (The three sports).  It is a sport made up of 3 different ones. In its most popular version, those sports are swimming, cycling and running.  In this events, different athletes have to compete between them to see who is the fastest and better one. They start with swimming, continue with cycling and finish up with running. Triathlon is an Olympic sport since the Sydney Games in 2000. The spanish representatives in triathlon for the London Games are Javier Gómez Noya, Mario Mola, José Miguel Pérez, Ainhoa Murua, Zuriñe Rodríguez and Marina Damlaimcourt.


Pentatlon came from Greece and nowadays it's an Olimpic Game. It's divided into 4 different disciplines, that are shooting, fencing, swimming and jumping with a horse.
